What was the best and worst in 2017?

I went to the cinema 43 times this year. However, I only saw 34 new release films, due to seeing Wonder Woman 4 times, Justice League 3 times, and Alien Covenant twice. I also saw Predator, the Fifth Element and Alien/Aliens for the first time on the big screen. But they don't count.

So my best and worst come from the 34 films I saw.

What can I say about 2017? It's kinda weird. Nothing was truely awful this year. Last year had quite a few films that fought for worst film, such as Independence Day 2. But this year, it hasn't been a year of stinkers.

However, it also hasn't been a year of greatness either. I feel that the 34 films generally sit kinda in the middle.

So, here's my thoughts.

Top 5 Best Films

1. War for the Planet of the Apes

2. Wonder Woman

3. Hidden Figures

4. Lion

5. Baby Driver

This wasn't easy, as apart from Wonder Woman, no film really sent me out of the cinema in a blaze of excitement. But as best films go, Apes was a stronger film overall than WW.

Top 4 Worst Films

1. Bad Moms 2

2. Fist Fight

3. Guardians of the Galaxy 2

4. Thor Ragnarok

The fact that I had to drop it to just 4 is a sign that not much was terrible. My Marvel experiences weren't good this year.

Top 3 most personally enjoyable films:

1. Wonder Woman

2. The Disaster Artist

3. IT

So this my personal choices for the year, like last year when Hacksaw Ridge was the best film, but Batman v Superman was my favourite.

Top 3 biggest personal disappointments:

1. Dunkirk

2. Justice League

3. Logan Lucky

Yes, I know everyone loved Dunkirk, but I hated it. Maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind. As I said then, I might watch it again one day and think it's the best film ever made. I am a Nolan fan afterall.

Yes, Justice League is listed here. As a film, its okay, but as a DCEU film, it's a disaster.

Most underrated films:

1. Alien Covenant

2. Live By Night

My first viewing of Alien Covenant I was left completely unable to say anything about the film, but my second viewing, with me allowing the film to be what it was, was much better.

Most overrated film:

1. Thor Ragnarok
